This weekend I was lucky enough to get away for a few moments and escape to Florida. I'll kick this thing off with yet again typing how awesome my parents are. I had been a bit stressed and overwhelmed so they invited me down to unwind with them for a few days in the sunshine. Not only are they the two most giving people in the world, they are hilarious. We had some great laughs.
I was committed to spending time with my family and doing a whole lot of nothing. I reached my goals to say the least.
Walks on the beach, sunshine, reading, wine, life chats with friends and family, its basically just what the doctor ordered.
In Naples there is my second favorite Whole Foods on the planet. #1 being the Austin "Mothership." I visited twice during my three days in Florida. I drank green smoothies, tried all the samples and shed a small tear at the floral department, which was tropical and green and perfect.
What was most important on this trip was the fact that there wasn't a plan. I majorly scaled back my email time, I slept 9 hours every single night & I exercised outside. When you spend a dedicated 72 hours really caring for yourself, its like hitting the reset button on your brain & your body.
You don't have to fly somewhere warm to hit reset (although it helps immensely) but I firmly believe you do need to get out of your environment. Spend one night somewhere else and have absolutely no agenda. No plan. For me this always involves no TV, no computer & a glass of wine. The amount of fulfillment from one day spent doing absolutely nothing is incredible.
I came home to my pack & all was well. We have so much to look forward to in the next few months, a Spring Break trip to Charlotte, Jesi & Dan's absolutely gorgeous wedding florals and baseball season getting underway outside!
At work today someone said "you look rested." I smiled back, 'you have no idea.'
Take care of yourself friends. It isn't selfish, just hit reset.
