on The Gather Series July

Oh what a night. If I could, every week I would host The Gather Series. This event has brought me so much joy in the first summer we've hosted it. The concept is really simple, get a bunch of people together who grow/cook/create amazing food. Pair that with 4 couples who are Northern Michigan residents and love to support our creative, collaborative, amazing place we call home. Add in a bunch of wine. Sprinkle in a beautiful tablescape, and top it all with bistro lights... let marinade for a few hours in our back field & you've got magic. :) 

This week's event was another dream evening. With a full moon rising we started the evening with a delicious Mushroom Bruschetta from Midnight Harvest. Matt grows mushrooms (crazy business of science!) and his beautiful bride-to-be Heather is his designer/brand guru/better half. 

We then were graced with a 'farm fresh' salad from Spirit of Walloon. Lettuces, herbs, fruits, veggies, you name it, picked that morning & combined with a fresh dressing made from more herbs & goodies they grow on their beautiful farm. It was, like a piece of art. (edible flowers on top!) 

Chef Jonathan Dayton was next with a fresh chicken and goat cheese dish, paired with a roasted golden beets & fava bean medley, so simple and so fresh. 

And lastly, Stephanie Wiitala handled dessert and created a to-die-for lavender shortbread, topped with a blueberry lemon thyme ice cream and a little drizzle of local honey. Oh my heart. 

The night would not have been so special if it wasn't for the creative/styling genius of my friends from Serradella Vintage Rentals and Deer Creek Junk. These ladies didn't hold back, with an old tractor bar, antique ladders, seed bag chair covers & of course, enough wit and charm to make any space magical. 

Flowers by some tall blonde with a loud voice and love of red wine. ;)

p.p.s. LADIES- Save The Date for a November 19th event at the farm. It involves champagne, making a giant wreath for you to take home & enjoying an afternoon. Seats are limited. Details soon.
